Hey guys! I don't have any modding experience but I am a 3D artist and huge Zelda fan with some questions.

I'm interested in importing detailed models into a rom or pc adaptation of OOT (if it exists).
I've read about the process of replacing models and textures in roms but would like to go higher res.
I imagine there would be a fairly low poly/tri cap on models and have seen that there is a 128px cap on textures for N64.

Is there any way to get around these hurdles and replace an OOT model and texture with a higher res one without serious rebuilding or re-coding of the game? Or any versions of OOT where this is possible?

Welcome to the forums tg_555! as for your question,

Short answer: No
Long answer: You would need to remake OoT in a game creation engine like Unity3D or from scratch like Izou Zelda and OoT 2D are being made.

Thank you!
That's what I suspected. Two more questions, probably a long shot as well (no pun intended):

1) Is it possible to export models with animation, or rigs/bones?
2) Is it possible to export maps with assets in the correct locations or would they need to be placed manually in an external engine?

You could help with my OoTHD project :) I need HD models. As far as your questions, the first one is a no afaik. And the second is that the external engine is used to place actors. Anything in the map is just that, part of the map/model. Actors are not part of that. Hylian Toolbox does the job nicely.

Awesome! Thank you!

And thanks for the offer but I'm not sure if what I am thinking of will fit in with you're project. Depends on how realistic and what style you are going for.

It's just some modelling between a few friends but we are thinking real world realistic, PS3/360 quality models just for fun. We are really busy right now so may be a while before we get anything done though.

I released a demo, and realistic is basically the exact style of OoTHD. 360 Quality or higher is what im shooting for. No worries, ive got a full plate too.

I just tried your pre-alpha settings! Looks pretty sweet dude! Still not quite the style we are going for though. Think more like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tgzsQEih0mk/TAf4N8L93pI/AAAAAAAAAEw/-SehMaMN0z8/s1600/HighResLink_Front.jpg It would be more of a re-imagining with realistic details and proportions while staying true to the original characters and concepts.

We only plan on creating still, textured game models to add to our portfolios/demo reels, starting with creatures and possibly working up to characters. Not really sure how it's going to turn out but if you like some of the stuff we come up with we could probably work something out.

Otherwise, everything I'm working on right now has to go towards making money or getting a job. Once I'm working, I would probably be able to help out though. I would love to see a playable high-res version of OoT!

also about ripping rigged models. there is a Blender plugin that you can import ZOBJs into, but it may be missing a few textures. It also does ZMAPs but no textures will be ripped
