@GANONdork123: Obviously. The textures could easily be scaled down and they'd still look better than the native N64 textures. @NewSuperMoiWii: It wouldn't look as crisp on the N64, but as I said above in reply to GANONdork123, they'd still look better scaled down than the original textures. |

FixtySour, maybe there will be a "little" better, but really a "little". For the hard work to do that , it's not interesting for the result...sorry :-( |

suppose that the textures are reduced to native resolution, is there any method to insert the textures directly on the rom? Even with the loss of details, it could be interesting exactly for people who intend to play on the console itself, or on another device. |

@djipi69100: There's no need to apologize, I wasn't asking you specifically to do such a modification, I was simply throwing out an idea to everyone. Though I personally don't agree that it would only be a "little" difference, since the OoT textures honestly look like shit by today's standards. The people making the textures for N64 games weren't exactly trained to be doing so, pixel artists were reassigned to make textures instead (and pixel artists were rarely actually artists!). Today, however, people are trained to be doing the task they are assigned, and they also have better image editing software as well as drawing tablets to make the job easier and more like painting than fumbling around with a mouse. OoT 3D's textures are far better than OoT's, and they'd still look far better if scaled down. But again, I wasn't asking you to apply the textures directly, I was throwing the idea in the air for anyone to catch. @richterw: It would absolutely be possible, though it'd be pretty tedious. It'd require knowing the addresses of every texture, and importing them via N64rip. You can download N64rip here. Also, this tutorial by Sylux shows how to use N64rip. |

You do realize that your comparison between today's games and games on a console from 1998 are invalid. You cannot compare something made today on a console from today with something made for a console from 1998. Besides, considering you can't import a texture bigger than 128x128 without having a purely black and white texture. And before you drop shit on me about the world map texture being bigger than that and still having color, that's because the texture is actually split up into multiple parts and is black and white, but just has a palette that the game applies to it. |

@PwnzLPs: To clarify, I completely understand that textures made for a game today can be of a larger size than games of yesterday, but I'm not comparing the technical aspect but rather the talent behind it. If Nintendo were to go back and remake OoT on the N64 today, the textures would look better than the original. So would the 3D models. What would make the difference would be that there are now significantly more people who are trained specifically to do texture painting and 3D modeling, and we now have better technology with which to create these things as well. The people who were behind the texturing and 3D modeling of most N64 games weren't trained to be doing what they were doing. The people behind the texturing and modeling of 3DS games were schooled specifically to do the job they are doing. |

@FixtySour: I imported some textures directly to the rom. But man, it is a lot of work, really not worth it, because there is the whole process of resizing, locate the place of every texture, import, test the rom, repeat the process. Edit: I put some textures in Hyrule field, and replaced all the backgrounds from Hyrule Market (day) for 3DS backgrounds, like the Bazar, Happy mask, Back alley, etc... I had the idea to put all the textures from the texture pack, but the tool im using (textureExplorer) don't show all the textures, just the pre-rendered backgrounds, some icons and fonts, hyrule field textures and that's it. There is another tool, easy to understand, used to import textures?
