Hey guys, I just had a quick question, so if it could be answered, that would be swell. I've recently been interested in modding Smash Bros. 64, and was wondering if you guys think we could somehow replace fighter models. For example, instead of the Smash64 Mario model in use, we replace it with the Super Mario 64 model. Or, instead of the Smash 64 Link, we use the high poly OoT Link model. Spoiler: click to toggle

Don't quote me on it, but I've heard that SSB uses the same model microcode (not sure if that's the correct terminology?) as OoT and MM. If this is true you should be able to port display lists between the games rather easily actually. |

Do you think I could open it with hylian toolbox or some other Zelda modding program then (if that's the case). I'm gonna take a look into it. |

You would have to use a hex editor. |

Alright sounds good. I'm gonna get started. I don't know where to look in the ROM for the models but a quick Google search should suffice. |

Don't count on a quick Google search sufficing. Considering nobody's modded SSB64 cuz of SSBM, you might be out of luck there. |

Just a quick note here, since I was slightly interested. The graphics code in the rom is encoded in vpk0 blocks, but it appears to be F3DZEX (or F3DEX2, I don't really know the difference).![]() However, I can't figure out how the address references work. References like segment 0x08, offset 0x850000 and segment 0x08, offset 0xCD0220. Not without further work anyways. |

Actully if I recall the people at .blank had a document that well, documented it to a huge extent. If you were to get a hang of the documentation they have it would help you out a ton. Maybe not so much with models. But in general it would get you pretty darn far. I've done work where I have Played as a custom made character. But it acted strange after replacing one or two model parts. So yeah the format is slightly different to my knowledge. Maybe you should give a ring them for this one. As for how I did it. It was merely dumb luck that I was able to replace a model or two. So I don't really know how the model format works but it sure is somewhat different from oot's microcode. If I wanted to given the documentation I could probrably make a model injector. But I have enough on my plate as it is and to do so I would have to put off work on mms for a month or two. But to be fair I would leave that decision in the community's hands. PS: If it doesn't turn out to be huge or helpful as I describe it lets leave it at, "It was useful to me for a few things in figuring things out." Edited by SoundBlitz, Feb 5 2016, 08:15 PM.

Sweet, I'll probably drop by there and ask around about it later then, thanks. |
